Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCLs) are a
group of rare inherited neurodegenerative disorders.
At the Sardiello Lab,
I was part of the team that revealed the function and mechanism of CLN8 and CLN6, the disease-linked genes for NCL type 8 and NCL type 6.
Our work was published in 2018 in Nature Cell Biology and in 2020 in JCI.
There is plenty of work to be done in the field of NCLs. The Sardiello Lab has more projects in the works regarding SCAR7, hopefully coming soon!
I am currently taking a hiatus from the lab bench to focus on patient care, primarily in the Memory Clinic at Stanford, where I treat diseases such as Frontotemporal Dementia, Alzheimer Disease, Parkinson, and Lewy Body Disease.
